I would like help identifying what state this license plate is from. This is a blurry screenshot from the film Elvis on Tour as he steps out of a Mercedes 600 Pullman. I would like to track down the whereabouts of this car today..
Thanks

I would 2nd that guess. California black plates seem like the right answer.

Agreed:
I think it’s just the picture making the blue appear darker, but CA did use black plates in the ‘60s, so that’s an option as well.

California black plate. DMV issued those from 1963 to 1969. Then they went to the blue plates with gold letters.

The 63-69 plates are actually black backgrounds, rather than blue.

+1 on the Cali plates.
I wonder if it’s this Merc?

Amazing info here, thanks folks. Now that I believe it is Cali I can start there and figure out where this 600 is. Definitely not Elvis’ powder blue 600 but a different one — possibly not owned by him but a chauffeur car.

that’s really close to what Oregon had from 65-till mid 70's (my 68 has a set on it) . 58-64 were the famous Pacific Wonderland plates then they just became blue and yellow, before that color depended on the type of plate

Yeah CA black/yellow in 60s, then my 71 Z has the blue with yellow.
